Precious Plastic workshop
Precious Plastic (https://preciousplastic.com/) is an international community of hundreds of members working to solve the problem of plastic pollution. For 6 years now, the simple and affordable technology of Dutch designer Dave Hackens' PreciousPlastic has been allowing plastic recycling without the need for expensive industrial equipment and can be easily installed even in a garage (in our case, in the Open Shop at Promprylad).
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The plastic is crushed, heated and used as clay (layered on a workpiece or baked in a mold). The result is simple and practical things for home use and landscaping: decor, lamps, original furniture, storage and sorting containers, surface coatings, and anything else your imagination and thought can come up with. The technology is publicly available, and if we build this machine, it will allow us to put Frankivsk on the map of the conscious Precious Plastic community.
WHAT DOES THE MACHINE CONSIST OF?
1. A shredder is a mechanism that crushes plastic into granules.
2. Extruder - allows you to melt the pellets into a thread from which you can create any small products (souvenirs, vases, lampshades, etc.).
3. Heat press - creates plates of different sizes and thicknesses that can be used to make furniture and public space elements. During the workshop, we will build a plastic recycling machine together under the guidance of initiatives from Odesa, Cherkasy, and Lviv that already have experience in applying the technology. In the future, the machine will be used to create products for personal and public use in Ivano-Frankivsk.
